When talking about plastic pollution, the first images that pop into our head are turtles stuck in plastic wrapping, or swamped beaches that were once considered exotic jewels.
What most of us do forget is that plastic can be found everywhere in our daily life - including cigarettes, which take around 15 years to decompose!
Luckily, some companies and non-profit organisations have launched successful beach clean-ups or financed scientific research to halt and reverse water pollution.
The beach bar “Tibu-Ron” near Barcelona has come up with an imaginative clean-up campaign: for each pint of cigarette butts collected at the shore, the bar gives out a free pint of beer.
And for those who don’t enjoy a beer: the bar lets you choose any soda of your choice instead!
