The Chamber of Commerce presented a series of 34 recommendations on Tuesday morning aimed at attracting and retaining young talent. Among its most notable proposals is making English the country’s fourth official language.

The strategy is based on the premise that Luxembourg will be unable to meet the recruitment target of 335,000 new workers by 2040, as projected by the General Inspectorate of Social Security (IGSS). The Chamber’s taskforce therefore advocates for a shift in focus towards increasing national productivity and efficiency. In line with this goal, it also urges the government to position Luxembourg as a leading European hub for Artificial Intelligence.

To reduce administrative barriers for both foreign workers and domestic companies, the Chamber is working on establishing a comprehensive “one-stop shop.” Reinforcing this effort, it argues for the formal adoption of English as an official language, citing its widespread use in the Grand Duchy’s multilingual professional environment.

Additional initiatives in development include a programme to better integrate the partners of foreign talent into the local labour market and society. The Chamber is expected to release further details on its proposals in January.
