The LSAP voted for their new party president at the congress in Käerjeng on Sunday. The sole candidate for the position, Yves Cruchten, was confirmed with 98.63% of votes.

The post opened up after the previous president, Franz Fayot, moved into the role of Minister for the Economy. The motion was unanimous with 257 delegates in the room. At the congress on Sunday, Cruchten suggested amending the party's statute to allow two party leaders, one man and one woman.

On International Women's Day, the socialist party congress office is fully made up of women for the first time. The president and vice-president of the LSAP women's faction, Maxime Miltgen and Tina Koch, presented a motion for equality. Miltgen said they were pleased with the improvements, despite them being due to coincidence. She also praised Taina Bofferding and Paulette Lenert for their work as ministers.

However, the LSAP and the ADR parties were the only parties to solely present male candidates for the elections in 2018. Miltgen said due to this she would advocate for more inclusive lists for the next election.
