The Young Greens argued that every year, the government should invest 2% of its GDP, equalling €1.2 billion, into affordable housing.

This investment should be financed with new revenues, such as the sale of government shares in those banks that were saved during the financial crisis of 2007–2008. At the same time, real-estate taxes need to be revised so that people no longer gamble on rising prices with empty properties.

Eliminating tax loopholes will also help make affordable housing more attractive again, the Young Greens further argued. The taxation of inheritances has to be revised, same as the starting support for those individuals whose families are not able to pass on a small fortune.

The Young Greens welcome some of the improvements in the Housing Pact 2.0, but also emphasise that over time, more and more people will be affected by the pressure of the market.

The housing crisis is therefore in need of urgent solutions, if future generations are to have realistic living chances, representatives of the youth faction concluded.
