ADR MP Fred Keup submitted a parliamentary question seeking detailed information on government aid paid out to non-profit organisations and NGOs over the last year, which sparked a multi-ministry and full governmental response. The amounts add up to millions.
Among the charities active in development and cooperation there are consistent amounts for affiliated associations, such as over 9 million euros to Handicap International, nearly 8 million for the Red Cross foreign aid, and 6 million to Care Luxembourg.
The Ministry of Family Affairs also supports a number of charities, such as APEMH with 39 million euros, the Red Cross with over 26 million, or the new HUT ASBL with nearly 28 million.
The housing ministry supplies financial support to create affordable housing, with sums of 20 million euros going to the Red Cross housing branch, and various church organisations and eight parishes receiving a total sum of 28 million euros.
The Ministry of Education is also of course a place of refuge for non-profit organisations from the affiliated sector. This year, Caritas Jeunes et Familles received 2.8 million, the Red Cross over 12 million, Arcus over 67 million and Anne ASBL around 49 million.
