"Chat Suffit"What are the benefits of sterilising cats?

RTL Today
The non-profit "Chat Suffit" is advocating for the sterilisation and castration of stray cats as a means to help improve their quality of life.

The organisation emphasises that this will help the animals and ease their tempers. Plus, the fewer cats are trying to survive in the streets, the easier it will be for them.

municipalities may channel their efforts in getting the problem under control

In general, stray cats have to fight a number of issues on a daily basis, such as hunger or temperatures. Some try to approach humans  for help, which can result in them being chased away or even beaten. People tend to dislike strays for scavenging in trash containers and are afraid of potential infectious diseases.

"Chat Suffit" is thus adamant about treating as many stray cats as possible, not only in the Grand Duchy, but also in France and Belgium. Once a cat has been sterilised or castrated, they are either brought back to the place where they were found, or people try to socialise them so they can be adopted. The organisation thus attempts to draw attention to the issue so that municipalities may channel their efforts in getting the problem under control.

The non-profit welcomes volunteer work, especially when it comes to catching strays. People can also call to inform the organisation about a stray in need of assistance. "Chat Suffit" helps treating wounded animals. Manon Brachmont, member of the organisation, recalls the case of Oscar, a stray they encountered while patrolling. The cat was in such bad shape that they immediately took it along. They managed to save the cat against all odds, and Oscar now lives in a family together with a bunch of other cats.

People are more than welcome to contact the organisation and help out with donations, or even adopt a stray. The message that "CHat Suffit" tries getting across is that people should sterilise or castrate their own cats before letting them out into the world.
