
Overall, coronavirus is circulating less in schools than it did before the Christmas break, but we must stay extremely vigilant, said the minister in an interview with RTL Radio. For that reason entire school classes are placed in quarantine once a case has been discovered to avoid having to close down the whole school.
"We cannot exclude anything. Should it be that the British variant, or any other variant for that matter, is circulating stronger in schools then we have to see what we can do...and we will take responsibility for that. At the moment, however, we do not see this occurring, but we cannot exclude the possibility", he commented.
A working group between the ministries of education and health is investigating how the situation in schools is developing with regards to the new variant.
Meisch said he believes the school programme can continue after the spring break with the system currently in place (A/B rotation) to assure a sense of normality.
From the 280 staff and students at the Lënster Lycée International School two individuals have tested positive. Should this have been the British variant, then it simultaneously proves that it does not necessary lead to a large-scale outbreak.
