"The second lockdown hit our businesses even harder than the first one. Not only because we designed new safety measures to better protect our clients, but also because we know we are not to blame for the infection spikes. Naturally, this leaves most business owners frustrated."
Alexa Ballmann further talked about a tendency to cancel appointments, which began growing around the same time that infection numbers spiked in October and November. She concluded that people's uncertainty became noticeable even before they were forced to shut their doors again.
Ballmann acknowledged that some safety measures have become indispensable. She believes that people should respect government restrictions and act prudently, as even spaces that do not require masks could be considered higher risk areas. A quick return to normal - and the continued existence of many businesses - depends on individuals following the rules: "It is still not time to party!"
Ballman further addressed the problem areas surrounding the government's financial support, which in many cases has too many loopholes and administrative barriers to be efficient where needed most.
Nevertheless, she praised the Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Lex Delles, for his willingness to engage with business owners and listen to their problems.
