Beside the vaccine bus or your GP, people can now get vaccinated on Limpertsberg again, in order to comply with the recommendation for over-70s and vulnerable people to receive their second booster.
Over 900 people had an appointment on Tuesday, most of them for their second booster. People over 70 have already received an invitation from the Health Directorate, while vulnerable people have been advised to consult with their GP to decide whether the second booster makes sense.
Dr Youssef Soufiane, coordinator of the Covid vaccine delivery, confirms that there is demand: “You can see it with the vaccine bus visits, GP practices and participating pharmacies. And of course, the number of people we treated [here in Limpertsberg] this morning.”
The EMA is hoping to decide in September on the approval of so-called variant vaccines. But it is not recommended for risk groups to wait for these, says virologist Dr Thomas Dentzer: “We should not expect to have the new vaccine by 1 or 15 September. Which is why you should make a risk assessment whether to give the other vaccine in the meantime, which will still help somewhat and is better than nothing. And then you see how it goes... we can’t know if it will be an Omicron variant causing a new wave in September, October, or a different variant.”
On Monday, the EMA also recommended the second booster for people over 60 and vulnerable people.
