General Patton is remembered as one of the United States’ best and most popular military commanders from the Second World War.
He died on 21 December 1945 of injuries suffered in a car accident on a hunting trip in western Germany.
Patton was buried at the Luxembourg American Military Cemetary in Hamm alongside more than 5,000 fellow soldiers from the US Third Army, after requesting that he should be buried with his men.
