In MarchUnemployment rises to 4.9%

According to the latest report by the Luxembourg Employment Agency (Adem), some 15,335 jobseekers registered as of 31 March.

The year-on-year numbers show an increase of 5.2%, or 756 jobseekers.

When compared to February’s report, the data shows a slight decrease of 318 people, or 2% - however, this no longer applies when taking seasonal variations into account. Once the variations are accounted for, the data shows an increase from 4.8% to 4.9% between February and March 2023.

Over the past 12 months, the number of new registrations with the agency has gone up. 2,526 residents applied in March 2023, 132 more than in March 2022, or an increase of 5.5%.

The number of people now claiming unemployment benefit has risen by 931 over the past year, bringing the total to 8,838 jobseekers, or an increase of 11.8%.

3,938 job vacancies were registered in March 2023 - a decrease of 25.2% compared to the same month in 2022. However, Adem said that March 2022 was an exceptional month for job vacancies. When compared to February 2023 (3,389), March 2023 counted more vacancies.
