
Luxembourg posted an unemployment rate of 6.3% in April 2026. The National Employment Agency (ADEM) has taken the opportunity to remind the public which professions are most sought after – both by jobseekers and by employers.
The unemployment rate stood at 6.3% in April. The number of new registrations by resident jobseekers rose by 3.6% year-on-year: 2,466 residents registered in April 2026, compared with 2,380 in April 2025.
In total, some 20,140 people were looking for work last month – 1,544 more than in April 2025, representing an 8.3% year-on-year increase. As in previous months, this rise particularly affects the most highly qualified jobseekers (+17.8%). In terms of age groups, a marked increase can be observed among those aged 30 to 44 (+10.9%) as well as among young people (+8.0%).
As of 30 April 2026, the number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefit stood at 10,181, a year-on-year decrease of 4.4%. Regarding non-residents, there were 4,297 available non-resident jobseekers at the end of April, representing a 22% year-on-year increase.
Looking at the professions sought by jobseekers, the findings have remained similar for several months. The largest increases are in IT, secretarial and administrative assistance, as well as accountancy. A significant increase can also be observed in organisation and research professions, and in culinary production.
In April 2026, employers declared 3,052 vacant posts to ADEM – a 14.7% decrease compared with April 2025. As already observed in March, professions such as warehousing, cargo handling and removals, industrial cleaning and hygiene, and paramedical care have recorded the sharpest rise compared with the previous year.
