2022 remains a good year in terms of employment in Luxembourg, with a low unemployment rate, despite a slight increase in the number of new jobseeker registrations.

The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM stood at 14,133 as of 30 September 2022, according to a report by Statec. Compared to September 2021, this represents a significant drop of 1,508 people, or 9.6%.

The unemployment rate (adjusted for seasonal variations) stood at 4.8%, the same as the previous month, thereby remaining low in the euro zone.

The number of job seekers is down for those whose registration period is greater than 6 months (-16.8% for registration periods of 7 to 11 months and -20.2% for 12 months and over).

Over 3,000 vacant roles

On the other hand, the number of new registrations is on the rise again. 2,952 residents registered with the National Employment Agency (ADEM) during the month of September 2022, 147 or 5.2% more compared to September 2021. But it should be noted that the new registrations for this month include 139 registrations beneficiaries of temporary protection (refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident job seekers receiving full unemployment benefit fell by 820 people or 10.5% over one year, to 6,999. The number of beneficiaries of a measure stood at 4,133 and is below the level observed in September 2021 (-346 people, or 7.7%).

During the month of September 2022, employers declared 3,633 vacant positions to ADEM , which corresponds to a drop of 15.5% compared to September 2021. The number of available positions stood at 13,332 as of September 30, 2022. The increase over one year is 24.5%.
