The umbrella organisation Collectives for Palestine has called on Luxembourg’s citizens to join a protest at the UK Embassy at 5pm on Tuesday to demand the release of the so-called Filton 24, whose conditions are raising concern among British NGOs such as Amnesty and CAGE International.
The Filton 24 consists of 24 activists who have been held in prison for over a year awaiting trial for their involvement in “direct actions opposing weapons production in the UK Elbit Systems Israel”. According to Collectives for Palestine, four of them have been on indefinite hunger strike, with UN experts expressing grave concern over their conditions.
In its press statement, the organisation condemns the attack on the right to protest Israel’s genocide. “In the UK, anti-terror laws are being twisted to protect the Israeli arms trade and the UK network of Elbit Systems weapons factories. Arms companies profit while dissent is silenced”, the statement reads.
The Peace and Solidarity Platform (FSPL) has also announced a vigil in front of the US Embassy at 4.30pm on Wednesday, demonstrating against the US intervention in Venezuela.
Few actions could more flagrantly disregard the Charter of the United Nations and international law than what the US President has done, writes the FSPL in its press statement. At the same time, the association criticises the responses by EU member states as cowardly and a “shameful submission through inaction”.
