The Ministry of Health has announced the opening of two new "Maisons médicales" centres in central and southern Luxembourg.

One will open on Val Fleuri in Luxembourg City, close to the CHL hospital centre.

The second will open on Avenue du Swing in Belval.

Both centres will replace the existing on-call centres in the city and in the south, which opened in 2010 and are no longer equipped to deal with the growing number of patients. The first wave of Covid in spring 2020 uncovered the inadequacies of the existing centres, according to a press release issued by the Ministry. The centres are said to be ill-equipped to set up two separate consultation flows, while the waiting and consultation spaces are not sufficiently large to allow safe distancing measures.

The Grand Duchy currently has three on-call centres which allow patients access medical consultations outside of usual GP opening hours. These can be found on rue Michel Welter in Luxembourg City; rue Émile Mayrisch in Esch-sur-Alzette; and avenue Lucien Salentiny in Ettelbruck.

The new centres will be able to accommodate patients for general and Covid-specific care, while also being more accessible by car or public transport.

The 5 million euro project was launched in January and is expected to terminate this summer, with doors opening from August/September.
The Ministry also announced it was searching for a new site in the north of the country.
