This figure marks an increase from the April estimate of 4.9% and represents the highest level recorded since December 2021, when it stood at 5.2%.
According to Adem’s report, there were 15,188 individuals actively seeking employment by the end of May, reflecting an increase of 1,242 compared to the same period in 2022.
During May, a total of 2,227 residents registered with Adem, including 64 refugees from Ukraine.
The report highlights that the number of jobseekers has risen across all durations of unemployment, with the exception of those whose registration period exceeds 12 months.
Out of the 15,000 individuals in this category, slightly over 8,000 received full unemployment benefits in May.
However, there is some good news as Adem reveals a substantial decline in the number of vacant positions, following a surge experienced the previous year.
As of 31 May 2023, there were 9,686 unfilled vacancies, representing a significant 26.9% decrease compared to the previous year.
Although the labour shortage has been gradually diminishing since last summer, it remains a pressing issue in the job market.
