Luxembourg’s City centre is once again poised to be a summer destination as the popular ‘Théâterplage’ - the ‘Theatre Beach’ - returns for another season of sun-soaked fun. Since its inception in 2019, the urban beach retreat has attracted an enthusiastic crowd with its unique beach-inspired setting right in the heart of the capital.
This year, the summer paradise will make a comeback from 6 July to 4 September.
Nestled on the beautiful Theatre Square, the initiative aims to bring vibrancy and seaside charm to an often overlooked part of the City centre. The beachy setup offers locals and visitors a delightful retreat amidst the urban landscape, transforming the square into a lively oasis during the warm summer months.
For those who have never visited, Théâterplage features a massive 350m2 sandpit where adults and children alike can relish the feel of soft sand beneath their feet. Deckchairs and beach umbrellas, bearing the City’s “multiplicity” colours, are strategically placed, offering a spot to lounge, unwind, or perhaps indulge in a good book.
The beachy vibes continue with summer plants beautifully arranged in colourful pots, further enhancing the seaside ambience. The visual appeal is amplified with fabric bunting and twinkling string lights, adding a charming festive air to the atmosphere that invites relaxation and celebration.
If you fancy some friendly competition, a pétanque court is also readily available. Whether you are a seasoned player or a beginner looking to try a new sport, the court offers an opportunity to engage in some light-hearted fun.
The initiative is not limited to just sun and sand, it also caters to your taste buds. Two dedicated drink stands are set to serve a variety of refreshing beverages and tasty snacks. So, whether you prefer a cold drink to beat the heat or a light snack to keep you energized, Théâterplage has it all.
