The government continues testing its emergency alert strategy in the new year. People who will be in the south of Luxembourg on Monday can therefore expect to receive one of the by-now familiar test messages.
Alerts will be sent out in the following municipalities: Bascharage, Dippach, Pétange, Differdange, Sanem, Leudelange, Reckange-sur-Mess, Mondercange, Schifflange, and Esch-sur-Alzette.
The following text will be displayed in the alert: “LU-ALERT / ALERTE TEST / NO ACTION REQUIRED / AUCUNE ACTION REQUISE / KEINE HANDLUNG ERFORDERLICH / INFOS: GD.LU/LU-ALERT.”
In a joint statement, the Ministry of State, Ministry for Home Affairs, and the High Commissioner for National Protection emphasise that there might be delays, meaning not everyone will receive the test message at the same time.
The purpose of the test is to examine the proper functioning of Luxembourg’s emergency alerts, detect potential areas in need of improvement, and raise awareness of the mechanism among the population. The long-term strategy is further designed to prepare people for natural disasters or industrial accidents that might affect public safety.
As Monday 2 January is also the first Monday of the month, emergency sirens will be tested across Luxembourg as is already customary.
