On Thursday, a mother and her two daughters were hit by train. The collision occurred in Belleville-sur-Meuse, on the Metz-Verdun link.
According to a witness, the family was standing by the tracks on a small bridge overlooking Rue des Mûriers when the train arrived.
The woman, about thirty years old, was thrown underneath and died instantly. Her two daughters, aged 5 and 8, were seriously injured.
Emergency services and the Verdun fire brigade were dispatched to the scene. The two girls were cared for on site before being rushed to the hospital.
The mayor of Belleville also turned up. Questions are abound, especially since the witness interviewed by our Lorraine colleagues said: "I had the impression that they were hiding from someone."
The Verdun police, who are in charge of the investigation, will be taking a statement.
