The inclusion of this stunning lake marks the fourth addition to the list of designated swimming areas in the Grand Duchy, joining the ranks of the Upper Sûre Lake, the Weiswampach lake, and the popular “Baggerweieren” in Remerschen.
Situated in the municipality of Echternach, the lake was meticulously constructed in the 1970s and has since become the second largest inland water body in Luxembourg. Luxembourg’s swimming season officially commences on May 1st and concludes on September 30th, granting ample time for water enthusiasts to explore various natural water bodies in the Grand Duchy.
To ensure the safety and convenience of swimmers, the swimming area at Echternach lake is initially demarcated by buoys. However, there are plans in motion to expand the designated swimming zone in the upcoming years, accommodating a larger number of visitors eager to experience the delights of swimming in this splendid lake. Additionally, three sturdy pontoons have been installed, providing swimmers with platforms to relax, sunbathe, or take exhilarating leaps into the inviting water.
