The 74-year-old is currently being held in custody in Schrassig prison, after being brought before magistrates on Tuesday.
A statement released by the public prosecutor’s office confirmed that the man had been charged with homicide and manslaughter in accordance with articles 393 and 394 of the penal code. In addition, the prosecutor has included charges of violating the law on arms, ammunition and threats.
The prosecution added that any person subject to an investigation or criminal proceedings is presumed innocent until their guilt has been recognised by a final decision of the competent lower court.
The suspect was taken into custody on Monday following the fatal shooting of a couple in Niederkorn. The victims, a man and a woman, were said to be the suspect’s next-door neighbours.
