Police were called out extensively across the country on Saturday night. Between 20 and 21 June, emergency services responded to nearly 90 callouts linked to noise disturbances, fights, arguments, and other disruptive behaviour in public. In most cases, the situation had already calmed down by the time patrols arrived, or was resolved on the spot.
One incident, however, called for a more substantial response. At around 2.15am, officers were dispatched to a brawl involving several men at a nightclub in the Gare district of Luxembourg City. According to witnesses, one of the men used a telescopic baton during the altercation. A search was launched and the suspect was tracked down quickly, with the weapon seized.
The man, heavily intoxicated and considered a danger to himself and others, was taken to hospital for a medical examination before being placed in a sobering cell. A report was filed for fighting and illegal possession of a weapon.
