According to a report released by the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR), the number of SIM cards using mobile internet reached approximately 750,000 in Luxembourg last year, reflecting a substantial increase compared to the previous year's figures.

On average, clients consumed around 10 gigabytes of data per month, representing a slight uptick from the preceding year.

Conversely, the report also highlighted a continued decline in mobile communication activities such as text messaging and phone calls. This downward trend is even more pronounced when it comes to landlines. Notably, there was a significant drop of approximately 20% in calls made via landline phones in 2022 compared to the previous year.

According to the report, investment in the telecommunications sector remained high. Investments were primarily directed towards expanding fibre optics and transitioning to 5G technology.

Investments in the mobile network alone witnessed a 25% increase, totalling almost €47 million. In 2022, the telecommunications sector recorded a turnover of €585 million.
