Minister of Education Claude Meisch stated that over the coming weeks, he will meet with actors from the education sector to prepare the start of the new school year in September, but also to assess which crisis tools could potentially be kept even after the end of the pandemic. Meisch cited the Summer School as an example, a programme which is intended to help pupils catch up on classes and specific subject matters. The Minister stated that he could imagine extending the programme and keeping it in place even after the summer holidays. On the other hand, Meisch also acknowledged that it is still difficult to say what type of sanitary measures will be in place in September.
MPs from the LSAP pointed out that already existing inequalities have become even worse. Those pupils who were already doing well before the pandemic have improved while those struggling to keep up fell behind even further. A number of MPs, both from the majority and the opposition, demanded further recruitment for after-school tutoring and private lessons as well as adjustments to the curricula.
