In response to a parliamentary enquiry from the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), Agriculture Minister Martine Hansen recently shared insights on the number of confirmed wolf attacks in the past seven years, including the state’s reimbursement guidelines for damages suffered by farmers.
Hansen thus revealed that the government has paid close to €7,300, relating to seven instances recorded over this seven-year period. She elaborated that the Agriculture Ministry fully reimburses immediate damages to livestock animals killed or injured by a wolf if the latter is unequivocally identified as the instigator of the attack. In case of persisting doubts, the ministry compensates 75% of the costs.
The Administration of Technical Agricultural Services (ASTA) evaluates the compensation eligibility of every case separately, Hansen noted. She also announced that the current Wolf Management Plan, put in place in 2017, is to be revised and updated in the near future.
