New government formationSpeculation mounts on 15-minister cabinet, swearing-in expected next week

RTL Today
The government team of Xavier Bettel, Paulette Lenert, and François Bausch met for the last time on Friday, as the new government is likely to be sworn in by the end of next week.

The coalition negotiations between the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) and the Democratic Party (DP), spanning just under a month, involved eight meetings at Senningen Castle. These sessions served as a platform for delegations to analyse and compare the electoral programmes through the lens of reports from a dozen task forces.

Preparations are already underway in the various ministries, laying the groundwork for the prospective swearing-in of the Frieden-Bettel government, tentatively scheduled for next Friday or, at the latest, Monday, 20 November.

According to RTL sources, and as already announced by Radio 100,7, the CSV and DP have reached a consensus on the broad strokes of the coalition agreement. Political leaders are expected to be briefed over the weekend on their designated responsibilities.

Other well-informed sources suggest that the new government will comprise 15 ministers instead of the current 17.

The next procedural step involves the validation of the agreement by the executive committees of both parties. This formality is anticipated to conclude in the upcoming week, with the delegations reconvening for the ninth time in Senningen on Monday. Luc Frieden is expected to address the press once again.
