Skateboarding in the 1980s and 1990s emerged as a global phenomenon, capturing the hearts and imaginations of countless individuals around the world - no matter their backgrounds and social standing.

Skating California will feature photographs, illustrations, and artefacts - from decks to shoes to ramps - from the history of skateboarding in California.

Fuelled by the rise of iconic skaters, groundbreaking videos, and the proliferation of skate parks, the 1980s marked a pivotal moment as skateboarding evolved from a fringe activity to a mainstream sport, with its own distinct style and fashion.

The rebellious and freewheeling nature of skateboarding resonated with youth, as it became a symbol of counterculture and self-expression. Quickly it solidified its place in popular culture, influencing music, fashion, and art.

The exhibition in Tétange attempts to make these feelings come back alive.

There’s another highlight to the exhibition, which runs until 1 October 2023: German rock band The Picturebooks will perform exclusively at the event on the opening night, 16 June, at 9pm.
