Municipal electionsSeveral surprises in northern Luxembourg

RTL Today
A number of unexpected results occurred during the municipal elections in the northern parts of the Grand Duchy on Sunday as some mayors were unable to hold on to power.

The LSAP lost 10% and two seats in Diekirch, which means they no longer have a majority. The CSV received 37% of the vote, same as the LSAP, so both parties now have five seats.

However, the LSAP became the strongest party in Ettelbruck with 36% of the vote, thereby overtaking the CSV and incumbent Mayor Jean-Paul Schaaf.

In Wiltz, the LSAP and Mayor Frank Arendt lost one seat. The CSV slightly increased their share, which means that both parties now hold five seats.

In Wincrange, Luxembourg’s largest municipality in terms of territory, the CSV remains the strongest party.

Tom Faber was the winner in Redange-sur-Attert, which voted according to the proportional representation system for a first time. Incumbent Mayor Henri Gerekens came in second, followed by Danielle Simon-Arendt.
