MPs Cécile Hemmen and Francine Closener from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) recently filed an urgent parliamentary enquiry concerned with the rising prices of pellet fuels used in wood boilers, which are said to have doubled since summer 2021.

Citing the measures from the tripartite agreement, both MPs wanted to know if Minister for Energy Claude Turmes plans on introducing similar aids to counterbalance the rising pellet prices and whether there are other domestic fuel types that are not included in the package of support measures.

In his response to the enquiry, Minister Turmes explained that the government is currently working on a respective text: “The tripartite agreement ... provides for the introduction of a measure to mitigate the price increases of pellets for households that heat with this energy source. The government plans on introducing a financial compensation to temporarily reduce the price of bulk wood pellets for households.”

The Greens politician did not provide any details on the progress of the text nor when to expect the finished document.

The second part of Minister Turmes’ official response remained more vague in that he stated that administrative difficulties prevent some fuel types, such as wooden logs, from being compensated.
