Between Mensdorf and Übersyren'Schlammwiss' nature reserve: home of birds and amphibians
'Schlammwiss', which translates to 'mud meadow', is a a nature protection area located between Mensdorf and Übersyren where migratory birds spend their summer nesting in the reeds.
The ‘Natura 2000' nature protection area extends over 370 hectares. Aside from reed and ponds, it is also the home of a station where volunteers tag birds with tiny rings to find out more about their behaviour.

The wetlands have existed for over 40 years. A vast number of birds use the reeds to build their nests while staying in Luxembourg during the warmer period of the year. Cuckoos are the first to leave, usually flying to Africa as early as July.
One also finds various types of amphibians hiding in the Schlammwiss reeds, which represent about 25% of the 100 hectares of reeds found in Luxembourg.
