EnvironmentSchifflange wants to become climate-neutral town

The municipality already began naturalising the Alzette river bed and surrounding areas about 25 years ago.

Trees remain important oxygen producers and those in the Schifflange area are estimated to emit around 30,000 tons per year. Receiving the European Energy Award in 2013 was certainly a motivation boost, but the municipality still has a long way to go if it wants to become climate-neutral.

Not long ago, local officials painted blue stripes on trees in an area spreading over half a hectare. The goal of this initiative is to raise awareness of everyone’s need for oxygen.
