Police were called to several break-ins across the country on Sunday.
At around 10.30am, a burglary was reported at a detached house on Rue Jean-Gaspard de Cicignon in Gasperich. According to initial information, one or possibly several perpetrators entered the property through the front door and then forced open the patio door. Once inside, they ransacked the rooms and made off with jewellery.
At roughly the same time, another break-in occurred at a restaurant on Rue St. Vincent in Esch-sur-Alzette. Here, the suspect or suspects entered the building via a window and stole cash from the register, as well as a vending machine containing children's toys. The machine was later found nearby, but there was no trace of the perpetrators.
Later in the afternoon, unknown individuals broke into another house on Rue du Kiem in Strassen. The intruders gained access to the building, forced open the apartment door on the third floor, ransacked the rooms, and took several items, including a watch.
In the early hours of Monday, police were alerted to a motorist suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.
Officers located the man soon after at his address on Rue Kierker and seized his car. He failed a breathalyser test, and his driving licence was subsequently revoked.
