“I have great respect and humility for this task. But, above all, I am eager to walk this path together with you,” Tanson declared at the end of her speech. The current Minister of Justice and Culture explained that her grandfather, who “went through a lot” as a resistance fighter during WWII, inspired her to become a politician. " There was no doubt in my mind that we had to do everything we could to ensure that this never happens again,” the 45-year-old said. Today, she puts her children above anything else and stressed that “politics should be about leaving our children a world worth living in.”

Tanson also thanked current Deputy Prime Minister François Bausch for bringing her into politics. In his speech, Bausch remarked that “a woman at the helm of the country… would be so beautiful,” before adding “but not just any woman. We need a woman who understands what equality for all means.” According to Bausch, it did not take long for the Green Party to agree that Sam Tanson would be the right candidate.

Finally, Party Co-President Meris Sehović noted that the election of a woman as their national lead candidate “not only marks the beginning of a new chapter for the party, but perhaps for the entire country.”
