The origin of the leak was traced to a 55,000-litre propane tank, which is why a large safety perimeter was immediately set up around the site.
The rescue workers also kept a close watch on the direction of the wind to avoid potentially inhabited areas from being affected by the incident.

A specialised company was called in to find the exact location of the leak but was unsuccessful after several attempts. Instead, it was decided to completely empty the tank – an operation that is still underway as of Friday morning.
The safety perimeter is still in place and part of the petrol station in the direction of France remains inaccessible for the time being.

According to the CGDIS' bulletin, fire fighters from Roeser, Bettembourg, Hesperange, Kayl, Esch-sur-Alzette, Dippach, and Luxembourg City were or are on site, as well as an ambulance from Bettembourg.
