A car collided with a truck while attempting to overtake it between the exits for Mertert and Wasserbillig. The trailer of the truck was damaged to the extent that parts of the undercarriage coating and the chassis were ripped off and fell onto the road.
The lorry behind had no chance to swerve and hit one of the pieces. The tank of this second vehicle was ripped open and some 500 litres of diesel spilt onto both lanes of the motorway. The truck only came to a stop some 150 metres later.
The firefighters were able to recover some of the spillage and some 60 litres could still be taken out of the tank. The bridges and roads authority was called to clean the motorway.
Nobody as injured during the accident, but material damages are significant. The motorway in direction of Trier had to be completely closed to traffic for some time.
The forces involved in the operation were ten people for the Grevenmacher-Mertert fire brigade, the Bertrange police, people from the Water Management Administration and the bridges and roads authority from Potaschberg.
