Initially, British Steel was meant to produce the tram tracks, according to Luxtram. However, now the tram tracks that will be set down between the Place de l'Etoile and the station will originate from the ArcelorMittal Rodange site.

Michel Wurth, the president of ArcelorMittal Luxembourg, believes the steel sector has a significant future, including in Luxembourg. He explained that steel production is consistently at a high level on a global scale and construction and the automobile industry are both two of the most important industries to exist.

He did highlight one difficult that the industry is having, particularly in Luxembourg, which is that it has used all its CO2 certificates and would need to purchase more on the European market.

Dudelange and Bissen sites

Referring to the sale of the Dudelange site, Roland Bastian affirmed that this had not been a decision made by ArcelorMittal but had been a requirement set out by the European Commission. The sale should be completed in the first trimester of 2019.

In Bissen, ArcelorMittal will collaborate with Wire Solutions, a company already belonging to the group. There, ArcelorMittal will produce steel products for over 1,000 clients. The manager of the factory in Bissen is confident that a closer collaboration will increase productivity.

ArcelorMittal remains one of the biggest companies in Luxembourg with over 4,000 employees.
