
At around 12.40pm, police were called out to a burglary in Hautcharage. Two people posing as charity workers collecting donations had managed to gain entry to a house and were able to steal a large sum of cash. An investigation has been launched.
In Dudelange, an attempted mugging took place at 6.30pm after three people approached a young man with an electric scooter on Rue du Centenaire. Attempting to steal the scooter, the perpetrators rained blows on the victim, but were ultimately unsuccessful and later fled towards the town centre. The victim was taken to hospital to treat his injuries. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Shortly after 8pm, burglars gained entry to an empty residence on rue Nicolas Grethen in the capital. However, the three perpetrators were disturbed and ran off towards Avenue de la Faïencerie via Rue Nicolas Ries. Two of the three were later caught by police and fined.
At 10.25pm, police flagged down a motorist for speeding on Rue d’Ellange in Elvange. The driver ignored calls to stop and raced off in the direction of Remich at high speed. Police mounted a chase and caught up with the speedster on Route de l’Europe. The driver and two occupants of the car were taken into custody, where it transpired the driver had no valid driving licence and was also in possession of 5.6 grams of marijuana. He was subsequently arrested and brought before a judge on Thursday.
Finally, a fight broke out amongst a group of people at the Place d’Armes, Luxembourg City, shortly after midnight. Three young men approached a group of English speakers and began taunting them, which led to an exchange of blows. The perpetrators fled towards Hamilius after stealing three briefcases from the victims. An investigation is underway.
