According to the Ministry of Health, Luxembourg recorded a notable increase of STIs in 2023: gonorrhoea cases rose by 28% to 606, syphilis by 16% to 122, and chlamydia by nearly 7% to 1,635. Only HIV infections saw a decrease, dropping from 68 cases in 2022 to 53 in 2023.
In response, a nationwide campaign targeting 15–25-year-olds is being introduced from 12 May to 15 June.
Organised by the National Agency for Youth Information (ANIJ) in collaboration with the Health Directorate, it features youth-led content online, workshops in schools, and a special event on 24 May at Atmos bar in Luxembourg City.

Free and anonymous STI screenings will also be offered during European Testing Week from 19 to 26 May.
Testing is encouraged – especially for those with multiple or occasional partners – since many STIs show no symptoms but can lead to serious long-term effects if left untreated.
Preventative measures – such as using condoms, getting vaccinated against hepatitis B and HPV, and accessing pre- or post-exposure HIV treatment – remain crucial for reducing the spread of infections.
