The latest report from the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (IRL) reveals a surge in photovoltaic energy production from solar panels in 2022, with an increase of over 50%.

Total electricity consumption decreased by 3%, while gas dropped by 21%.

An increasing number of households installing photovoltaic systems in 2022 chose to use the electricity they generated for their own needs, rather than feeding it into the grid. This decision was made by three-quarters of such households, marking a significant rise compared to just under 15% in 2021.

It is important to note that, in the face of rising electricity prices in 2022, the government played a significant role in alleviating the impact by absorbing the increase. A similar protective measure was applied to gas prices, which have been capped since October 2022, with the state covering the difference.
