After the Easter holidays, rapid tests will be deployed in all schools in Luxembourg.
Overall, the large majority of pupils seem to have reacted positively to the self-tests and although they are voluntary, many parents are reportedly willing to collaborate.
The pilot phase will be analysed over the Easter holidays. So far, the most likely scenario for the near future seems to be a weekly test for each student. However, details still need to be worked out, for example whether pupils in the same class will all be tested together on the same day of the week, or whether the tests within a class will be spread over a week.
500,000 antigen tests are available in Luxembourg. Additional orders have been placed. The tests currently used in schools correspond to international standards and have been evaluated by independent foreign laboratories. In fact, they are the same tests that have been used in Austrian schools for several weeks already.
120,000 tests will be used each week to test teachers and pupils. The different stages of the current sanitary strategy will be maintained until further notice and a positive rapid test will be treated in the same way as a positive PCR test.
The Ministry of Education will provide further details during the Easter holidays.
