Hopes pinned on new strategyRapid Covid-19 tests at schools

RTL Today
School systems everywhere are putting their hopes in rapid testing to contain the virus, with kids testing themselves. Luxembourg is hoping to join the fray.

Austria is one of the early adopters, regularly testing students since schools have reopened this year.

Luxembourg is hoping to introduce these fast and easy tests some time in the next few weeks, as announced during the press conference on 12 February.

The Ministry of Education confirmed to RTL that the tests in question will come from the Health Directorate. Dr Thomas Dentzer, their coordinator for crisis management, is responsible for the tests. They are done with a saliva sample and analysed at the national laboratory.

Video report in Luxembourgish:

Schnelltester an de Schoulen
Eng grouss Hoffnung gëtt an déi sougenannte Schnelltester gesat, och zu Lëtzebuerg solle se an de Schoulen agesat ginn. D’Kanner solle sech selwer testen.

This fast and easy testing strategy could be deployed in schools once reliable tests can be procured in sufficient numbers, said Dr. Dentzer. At the moment, no date has been set for the launch, however.
