Autumn conference in MondorfQuadripartite committee to address financial situation of health and maternity insurance

On Wednesday, the quadripartite committee on health and maternity insurance meets at the Domaine Thermal in Mondorf.

This autumn conference of government, trade union, employer, and health care provider representatives will focus on the financial status of the maternal health insurance plan, which has been severely challenged by the pandemic, as well as the most recent budgetary predictions for 2022 and 2023.

The National Health Fund (CNS) ended 2021 with a loss of almost €56 million. For this year, a deficit of €48 million is expected.

Another issue to be discussed is better coverage of medical procedures by dentists, which has been a long-standing demand of trade unions such as the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL). To date, nothing concrete has been achieved.

All parties agree that the lack of personnel is a key issue in the health sector. On the other hand, opinions differ when it comes to finding those responsible for this shortage. For years, the Association of Doctors and Dentists (AMMD) has chastised the Ministry of Health for its “inefficient policies.”

Meanwhile, in a press release issued on Wednesday, the OGBL accused the AMMD of “attacking the foundations” of the Luxembourgish health system and “searching for solutions in the wrong places.” Only the creation of a strong public health system, according to the OGBL, will prepare Luxembourg for future challenges.

In its press release, the OGBL also regrets that the task force formed to monitor the financial situation of the health and maternity insurance has yet to meet for the first time.
