Luxembourg CityPrivate security firm also to patrol Bonnevoie, announces Laurent Mosar

RTL Today
The MP and Luxembourg City councilman from the Christian Social People's Party was a guest at RTL Radio on Tuesday morning.

Towards the end of last year, the Luxembourg City council decided to hire a private security firm to increase the feeling of safety in the Gare district. Even though the measure sparked controversy, local residents have welcomed the initiative, argued Mosar on Tuesday morning.

Starting 15 May, the security service is to be extended to the Bonnevoie district. As long as the government remains unwilling to help address the situation, the Luxembourg City council will continue to fall back on the measure, Mosar conveyed. The municipal council believes that a permanent police presence in the respective districts should be introduced, and that officers should be allowed to ban individuals for repeated offences.

When asked about security cameras, the CSV politician explained that they were not a solution to the problem, only one aspect of a complex system of tools used to increase the feeling of safety in the district.

As the party's congress is approaching, Mosar was asked whether he will support president Frank Engel with his vote on 24 April. The politician declined to answer, but indicated that he expects a number of people to run for the position. He hopes that whoever is elected will restore calm to the party and put an end to internal turmoil.
