In a press release issued by the Association des Agents Pénitentiaires on Wednesday morning, the AAP described a violent incident at the prison in Sanem in which an officer suffered injuries to the face and skull.
Following the attack using a porcelain plate, the attacker resisted other officers' efforts to immobilise him.
In the light of this attack, the association stressed the continued violence faced by prison officers, emphasising that urgent solutions are needed to address the increasing risks faced by staff in Luxembourg's prisons. It argued that the concerns of those working on the ground must be heard and acted upon, concluding that words are no longer enough and that "concrete actions must now follow."
"It's time to listen to those on the ground", the press release stated, adding that political initiatives and mediation processes take too long while prison agents continue to work in difficult conditions. The association called for immediate, large-scale recruitment to address staff shortages and improve safety for prison officers.
