In Schrassig and GivenichPrison violence slightly on the decline over the past three years

While such incidents are relatively rare in the semi-open penitentiary in Givenich, they are not unheard of in Schrassig.

In 2021, there have for instance already been instances involving prison guards having to separate two prisoners, or an inmate slamming their cell door into a prison guard's head.

There have also been around half a dozen such incidents which required the intervention of prison guards against inmates in 2020.

These numbers were provided by Minister of Justice Sam Tanson in response to a parliamentary question by MP Fred Keup from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr).

Tanson also specified that the Ministry had repealed its offer of anti-violence training sessions because it was unable to find professionals who could offer sessions that were up to the Ministry's criteria.

However, the Department of Criminology and Research of the Schrassig Penitentiary is currently working on an "adequate" violence prevention training, which will subsequently be implemented in Schrassig and Givenich.
