On Thursday evening, the Leudelange municipality disclosed that analyses for asbestos conducted at the an der Eech cultural and social centre yielded negative results. “Luxcontrol has confirmed the absence of asbestos fibres in the ambient air during this examination,” stated the municipality, addressing concerns raised following the fire that consumed a barn, revealing asbestos-laden debris.

With the school resuming activities on Thursday, plans are underway for the cultural centre to reopen its doors on Friday. Scheduled events, including the Leidelenger Musek gala concert on Saturday, are expected to proceed without interruption.

Simultaneously, assessments are being conducted at the church and the Chiche restaurant to ensure the absence of asbestos contamination.

According to local authorities, the ongoing removal of asbestos-containing waste progressed throughout the day and is anticipated to conclude by Friday evening. Materials containing Eternit, posing an asbestos hazard, “no longer pose an immediate threat to public safety.”

The municipality of Leudelange anticipates that precautionary measures previously advised to residents, such as keeping doors and windows closed and minimising outdoor activities, “are likely to be lifted” by Friday evening. Official confirmation is expected on 3 May.
