The Water Management Authority revealed that a discharge of wastewater from Esch-sur-Alzette’s sewage system led to a depletion of oxygen in the Dippach stream, proving fatal for numerous fish.
Municipal personnel promptly took action to address the spill, with the Water Management Authority and fire brigade deploying pumps to increase the watercourse’s oxygen content, as stated in a press release.
On Monday, local authorities and the Water Management Authority collaborated to retrieve the lifeless fish from the site.
Although initial suspicions linked the recent heatwave to the incident, it has since been clarified that the extreme temperatures were not a contributing factor to the fish deaths.
