Scammers have been contacting residents by phone, claiming that an arrest warrant has been issued against them. The goal of these calls is to extract personal information or banking details, or to pressure people into transferring money or handing over valuables.
Police stress that neither law enforcement, the justice system, nor any other public agencies will ever use such tactics to request information or payments.
In many cases, the calls appear to come from Luxembourgish mobile numbers or even from official administrative bodies. However, these numbers and identities are being spoofed by the perpetrators.
Authorities urge the public to never share personal data or banking details with unknown callers. People should also be wary if they are pressured to act quickly during such calls. Police advise that, in case of doubt, the safest action is to hang up and contact the relevant institution directly using official contact details to verify whether the call was genuine. In general, the police recommend that individuals immediately hang up if they receive such a call.
If someone has already fallen victim to the scam, they should report the incident as soon as possible.
