Police are warning of a rise in phishing emails and scam attempts linked to the switch from Payconiq to Wero. Criminals are using the changeover as a pretext to steal personal data, banking details, and passwords.

In several recent cases, people received emails or messages telling them to click a link to move over to Wero. Some were then phoned by callers posing as staff from a bank or Luxtrust.

Police stressed that no bank, Luxtrust or other legitimate organisation will ever ask customers to share sensitive information with a third party.

Anyone who receives a suspicious message or call should not click any links or give out personal details. Instead, contact your bank directly using its official number.
