Police officers arriving at the scene found the two minors still in the vehicle and were able to quickly locate their mother. However, instead of cooperating, the mother attempted to prevent officers from removing the children from the car. A breathalyser test revealed that the woman was heavily intoxicated.

According to police, the children told officers that they had voluntarily locked themselves inside the car despite the sweltering heat, as they were afraid to travel with their mother due to her dangerous driving. While their mother was briefly inside the petrol station, the children used the opportunity to call their father. He arrived at the scene a short time later.

The father subsequently took the children into his care, while the mother was taken to the police station, where her driving license was revoked.
